So I have been trying to get pregnant for a while. I am a smoker (not for too much longer) and I am horribly out of shape (I’m not FAT but I could stand to loose a few pounds and tone back up)
I have been told time and time again that working out helps a LOT with getting pregnant.
I was pregnant once before back in April, but I lost the baby. 4 months later, and I am wanting to try again.
Any words of advice?
(No smart ass comments like “Quit smoking.”)
I am aware than I need to quit smoking, and I am going to be working on that this month.
But is there anything else that I could be doing to help my chances?
Homeopathic is the way I want to do things.
Help and advice is warmly welcomed.
Thanks all!

Yes, working out will help. I was overweight when I was trying to conceive and my fertility doctor wanted me to lose weight. I went on the South Beach diet at that time and started walking every day and I lost about 35 lbs. I felt awesome and the truth is you want to be at the most healthy weight you can be when you get pregnant. Good luck to you!
Working out will increase your chances of regular ovulation by a LOT. It will also get you off to a good starting weight when you do become preggo. You can start charting your basal body temperatures so that you will have an accurate picture of when you ovulate, when you are fertile, when you’re not, and when you should test. I am preggo w/# 2 and I credit both of my pregnancies to charting my temps. It will help you to understand your body on a whole new level. We tried for #1 for a year and a half. Docs told us that we would need to get on some fertility drugs like Clomid, etc. but like you, I really wanted to do things naturally. I worked out and I temped and we finally got preggo. As for the second child, I charted my temps about 3 months before we wanted to start trying, then when we did start, we hit it on the first shot! LOL. Best Wishes to you, you are on the right path!
Well, I would try to eat healthy first and see what you can lose off eating healthy and doing light exercise like yoga. You’d be surprised, 60% of weight loss is from dietary changes alone.
I’m so very sorry to hear about your miscarriage… it is so good that you are seeking healthy changes to prevent that from happening again.
quit smokeing gawsh
You want our advice, but yet you view the NUMBER ONE THING standing in the way between you and fertility as a smart-a** comment. Hmm. I’m sorry, would you like an easier way that doesn’t require you actually giving something up?
Fact is, “planning to begin working on quitting smoking later this month” just won’t cut it. You need say to yourself, “I am not going to smoke anymore, and that is all there is to it.”
Now that I’ve gotten my smart-a** comment out of the way, as you call it, I really encourage to keep going with the working out! Not only will it improve your overall health, it will make you feel so much better and actually can really help with quitting smoking. My coworker is an overweight guy who smokes and he recently quit cold turkey. You know what he did? He replaced his smoking habit with excercise and three weeks later he no longer has the cravings! Plus, he can’t wait to get to the gym after work because he sleeps better at night, has more energy during the day, and is losing weight!
You’re on the right track, now you just need to take the next giant leap and swear off smoking for good and replace it with a healthy lifestyle. You can do it! You just have to give it enough time to really make a difference in your life.
-Take prenatal vitamins daily.
-Use ovulation calendars regularly
-eat well balanced meals, good proportioned sizes, all food groups, etc.
-work out daily (not to the point of getting sick, but staying fit and getting into shape helps with conceiving)
-cut alcohol from your diet (I know ppl have a glass of wine with dinner or w.e. but cutting it completely will do wonders)
-decrease the amount of caffeine you drink (instead of a 20 oz coffee, do a 12 oz instead. Or instead of 2 cans of soda, reduce it to one. This will also help with getting in shape.)
-quit smoking and any other addictions you may have, your chances of conception will increase drastically.
these things combined will not only increase your chances of conception but improve your overall heath.
Getting in shape and eating right will help out a great deal. Start taking prenatal vitamins. Be sure to start charting your ovulation days. After having sex, instead of getting right up, lay on your back with your hips elevated slightly. Do that for about a half hour to an hour. It helps the sperm get closer to your cervix using gravity. Other than that, as dumb as this sounds, as soon as we decided to stop trying, we found out I was pregnant lol. Sorry for your loss and good luck!
