My 16 month old has been prescribed some mild steriod cream for a dry skin condition but I don’t like the idea of using it. The doctor said he had a form of dermititis that wasn’t contagious but caused most likely by our detergent- which I’ve changed but the rash still hasn’t gone! Any homeopathic remedies?

Topical steroid creams are VERY minimally absorbed by the body. While, in theory they could cause harm with long term use (thinning of the skin, even slowed growth), if they are really necessary, they are safe for normal use. (Just like any other medication you might give.)

I have eczema myself, and know how uncomfortable it is. If other methods of treating it (changing detergents/soaps, using moisterizers/removing potential allergins from his diet) don’t help, steroid creams are an appopriate treatment.

I use that cream very sparingly for my daughters eczema. I think as long as your using it that way it should be fine. Check before using any homeopathic remedies on your baby. Homeopathic does not equal safe…

Not really homeopathic, but my baby had an awful skin rash that didn’t go away for months, not even with the cream the doctor gave me (in fact, the cream made it worse). I started putting Triple Cream (the baby diaper rash stuff) on the dry skin in the morning, then keeping A&D ointment on it constantly throughout the day. It took 3 days for the irritation to go away and her skin is totally fine.

I do not like the use of steriod creams on children. I will tell you, I whole heartedly suggest using Aquaphor by the makers of Eucerin. I always suggest it, because my children havd suffered with eczema, and after I used it dillegently , they have not had eczema since they were infants. For your childs dermatitis, I would give it a try. I think you will find that the petroleum based emollient is amazing, and soothes the skin as well as safer. Blessings….

My son has SEVERE dermatitis and is prescribed many steroid creams. He is actually prescribed a high steroid this past week because his eczema was out of control! It is sad because he is only 6 months. Know that dermatitis is a skin condition that can be aggravated by the detergent, but that’s not it. It is a skin condition that can also come and go for no reason. My 5 year old has mild eczema/dermatitis as well. We use All Free and Clear for everyone. I have also used 100% Extra Virgin olive oil and plain old Vaseline for the dryness on their skin.
