Question by AL IS ON VACATION AND HAS NO PIC: What supplements can I take to counteract the effects of alcohol?
by that I don’t mean hangovers. I’m taking about nutrient deficiencies, cirrhosis of the liver, brain damage, sexual problems, heart disease, cancer, etc. Will supplements help me reduce my odds of getting those things? because I’m not going to give up my 4 or 5 drinks a day. I’m not an alcoholic but I like to drink.

Question by Elle: is it bad to take homeopathic medicine daily when i don’t even have a problem?
i used it for an infection.. that infection is gone… but it’s helping me lose weight.

Answer by {emine}
No. If you used it for an infection, and it’s gone, you should stop using it. Your probably losing weight because of another reason. Your body can get used to the medicine, and once you stop using it, your body is going to WANT it. It’s going to feel addicting. :]

Question by Amethyst33: Can my 82 year-young mother take Trazadone for insomnia as she has glaucoma?
Can Trazadone be safely used for insomnia in one that has glaucoma? I can’t find any information about this on the internet. Help please? Will be so grateful for any advice or information. My mother is so sleep deprived and all homeopathic remedies have been tried with no success. Can she safely take a small dose of Trazadone as she takes no prescribed medication and is in wonderful health. But we have got to find something to help her get some sleep. Thank you so much for any advice.
@ Alan C. I am greatly offended by your comment about my mother. I am hopeful that you will learn what she taught my sisters and me when young. “If you can’t say something nice about someone, then you should say nothing at all.” I feel that you need to heed this advice as one never makes unkind statements about another person’s mother. I came to this section for some help for my mother. Not to have her insulted by you. I wonder how healthy you will be at 82 years? And remember what goes around comes around. So I strongly suggest you spread some seeds of kindness to the elderly. You aren’t young forever. You may not relate to being old, but one day you will regret your statements about our beloved elders. And she is in such good health that I bet you couldn’t even keep up with her. Karma Balances All. You might want to reconsider your words. As once they are spoken or written they are never forgotten. Forgiven? Possibly. Forgotten? Never. I hope you have some shame in you for your unk
@ continued to Alan C I hope you have some shame in you for your unkind words. Remember only you can change yourself. Nobody can change “you” but yourself.
@ Alan C You good with me. Who am I to judge you. Sorry got so effn self-righteous. Shame Shame on me. Hope you forgive me? YOU AOK. The holidays are always so stressful! Am extending the olive branch. I sure did react in a bitchy way. Guess it’s like one of those “YO MAMA” moments and I was like Leap Froggy…So was my manner 55 years OLD or 55 years YOUNG? I think i’m on the “childish” OLD. lol Should have waited to post this one as I have discovered what they say is true. Never mail an angry letter at night. Sleep on it, read it again, and then decide. Hope I have learned my lesson. Rather humbling for one that espouses compassion and trying to not create any new negative karma, So please forgive me and I apologize to you. If you accept……Maybe I’m beginning my “second childhood,” God I hope not,,,,,yet…Happy Thanksgiving. Bless you and yours.

@ Indiana Jones Great advice and love the web site. And good luck to you on your complete eye health. You so kind and thoughtful.

Question by pugdog: Is it ok to take effexor XR with herbal supplements?
I take Effexor XR 37.5mg and it started to work the first day. I was wondering if it is safe to take natural supplements like L-Tyrosine, PharmaGABA, and or 50mg 5-htp in addition to Effexor XR?

Best answer:

Answer by Carron
I wouldn’t take these supplements while on Effexor. 37.5 mg is a minimal dose. If you’re not feeling like the Effexor has worked good enough, talk to your doctor and see about getting the dosage upped.

These types of supplements work on your neurotransmitters in a similar way to antidepressants (as you apparently know). If you do want to take them, please talk to your doctor. You don’t want to get seratonin syndrome which is like an OD and can be fatal..

Question by roxalonna: Is there a homeopathic medicine that I could take to help with my weak ankles?
Sometimes when I walk my ankle(one or the other of them) will shift oddly, and i’ll fall. usually shift outward. It’s not that I don’t have solid footing.

I have sprained my ankle 2-3 times before, never broken, but so that I couldn’t walk. I am overweight, but i’ve been loosing a lot lately.

This has happened before, but usually only once in a blue moon, and now that i’m loosing weight it’s been happening more frequently. I dance often, and get enough exercise, btw.

I think it’s hereditary, my dads’ side has weak ankles. but is there any way I could maybe take a vitamin that i’m not getting enough of or homeopathic something?

Best answer:

Answer by starryeyed75
I dunno if this will help, but glucosamine will help build up the cartilage in your body. I have injured my ankle several times and glucosamine helps.
