exfoliate daily with either alpha-hydroxy cream, or a facial scrub. I have been using a cream called Pentaxyl which is supposed to treat fine lines and wrinkles. But I am skeptical of anything that is not FDA-approved. Too many snake oil salesmen.
I heard of some prescription cream called Renova or Retin-A. What is the difference between these two? Is there anything else that i should know about how to take care of my skin?

Back when I was young, a long time ago, mens skin care products generally consisted of shaving cream. Recently my 4 year old male pug, Oliver was bitten by a spider that was not poisonous. However, being that he has sensitive skin and the bite itched, he scratched at the bite (of course while I was at work and was not there to notice it). It developed into a hot spot and being cautious, I took him to his vet for treatment.

I assumed they would do the usual, shave the area, give him a steroid shot and send me home with some topical powdered medication and antibiotics. My assumptions were correct and within a week the area is 100% better.

My question is, to any vets out there or pug owners out there, is there anything you would recommend for helping with re-growth of the hair in the area that was shaved? I do realize that it will take time, and actually it has already began to fill back in. I am just curious if anyone has had success with any product or homeopathic treatment which helped grow the hair back quicker and in the most even and healthy manner as something that can help with minimizing any scarring to the skin below and ensuring that it is properly moisturized after all of the steroid based topical powder used to treat the wound.

I am also asking for any information on ensuring that the new skin which has formed as a result of the healing process, heals in a way that leaves Oliver with skin that is as healthy as possible (I.e. minimal scarring, since scarring has a significant impact on hair growth rate and follicle dispursion). For example I know that Vitamin E is good for this purpose in humans, but am not sure if there is a better alternative out there for a dog, especially one with sensitive skin where altering pH and skin oils can cause serious repercussions..

Thanks for the tip on the anti-yeast med, I have used this (gel form intstead of cream form) to treat some issues with sour smelling and inlflamed face wrinkles on a friend’s pug and it was very sucessful, but this was a hot spot caused by a reaction to a bite….not as a result of a yeast issue.

I’m making a skin formula and I want to know what I can put it with (like a cream that’s already made or something out of a tube) to mix it with that will carry it through the skin. I read about DMSO and Camphor ? ANy one please answer thanks.

My 2 year old female English setter (adopted 8 months ago) has a chronic skin problem. We’ve had 4 visits to the vet/3 different vets. They say she has no parasites, but DERMATITIS. We tried antibiotics with a topical cream, then the same antibiotics and a type of topical foam and the problem still persists, and now it’s worse.
I also tried changing the diet, she was on a lamb and rice, and fish and rice dog food, and no change. then I tried a natural diet with rica and/or pasta with vegetables and meat or chicken. No change.
My latest attempt is homeopathic remedy – ‘sulfer’ granuals – but still no change.

Her skin is very pink and in places there are small red bumps (no pus, there is a large dry ulcer near her neck which has never fully healed and that she scratches, and she often bites near her feet and bum. She scratches everywhere and also on her face. Her coat is thin and course (not sure if this is because she may be a ES cross) and she like to be warm and near the heater.
She hasn’t been spayed yet.

Anyone have any ideas???? I’m at a loss here!
