Question by anonymom: Chronic Sinus infection I feel like I’ve tried everything. Help!?
I have had a sinus infection for over 3 months. 3 months ago at it’s worst, I had an ear infection, bronchitis, and sinus infection. I was very sick. Here is what i’ve tried:
3 rounds of antibiotics
a variety of homeopathic medicine and other remedies prescribed by my naturopathic doctor (silica, garlic, lauracidin, seriphos, probiotics, ThyroChord)
Gluten free, dairy free, soy free diet for 3 weeks
castor oil packs about 3x/week
hydrotherapy
Vitamin D supplements
2 types in inhalers

Tests:
CT scan which showed my sinuses we all completely, totally full (this was after 2 rounds of antibiotics)
blood work- this all looks pretty good, with a slightly below ok range for Vit. D, high normal TSH and high normal white blood cell count.

I am getting ok sleep, about 7 hours a night
I have A LOT of stress in my life (single mom, 2 small girls, full time job + part time job, recently divorced and very angry at ex- this is the biggest part of my stress, house under water and can’t afford payments)

What I have going for me is regular exercise, very good social support

Any ideas or thoughts about what else I can do? I am sooooo tired of being sick…

If the CAT scan of your sinuses is normal, then you have no blockages that hold fluids or need repair? If that is so, then you just need to get them clean enough to recover. All that gunk stuck up there rots. ‘Rots’ is another word for infection.

Never swallow drainage from your head, always spit.

You have not yet tried regularly irrigating your sinuses. Use a soft rubber long tip ear and nose syringe to suck your nose out, and to rinse it. There are various prepared solutions for doing this, and you can also make your own. it is extremely cheap. It takes a sort of knack, because it is gross and chokey, but you can get it… Put solution up your back-tilted head, wait as long as you can, blow and spit, use the rubber syringe if you have to to suck it out, repeat until air goes through your head, then you are done. It is sort of amazing how, as time goes by, horrible alien lookin’ blobs of stuff comes out of your head and whole new departments of nose open up… You can feel air *moving* in creepy places you don’t recall being air chambers :)

I have had the best luck with adding boric acid and using as cool water as I can tolerate (it reduces swelling, just like ice – but beware brain freeze!). http://www.allianceent.net/index.php?section=9&pid=195 has recipes and tips. I am a mouth breather, and this dries your sinuses too. I found that a few drops of glycerin (which is not mentioned on the site, but was recommended to me) keeps down irritation while healing, and keeps things moist at night.

One source of annoyed blocked up sinuses is sleeping on your back, and another is snoring/mouth breathing. The first prevents drainage, and the second dries your sinuses out, keeping them from defending themselves. Believe it or not, you *want* a wet nose inside. Stay well hydrated, and if you tend to have thick mucous, take guaifenesin, the generic of mucinex, which thins secretions generally. Get it plain, everything in the combined formulations are things that have rebound, and generic is cheapest.

Dust and smoke in your home and workplace, animal dander, and mites in your upholstery can also be irritating. clean your house, get rid of all the fabric you can in favor of flat floors with washable carpets. if you have an apartment or are stuck with carpet, get a HEPA filter or water bath vacuum. If you smoke, or members of your family do, quit or do it outside. Stand in your shower and breathe the steam. Obsessive dental hygiene helps (no infection crawls out of your mouth and up your head).

I have struggled with what you describe for years and years, and it will still get the drop on me now and then… but a couple days of irrigating will head it off now.

Question by Julie: Paranoid, anxiety, HELP.?
I’ve always been an anxious person since I was young but this has just gotten out of hand. A little background on me: I’m a 21 year old, female. Since I was 17 I have been moving around from place to place, settling down for a couple months, heading back home for a couple months and then off to somewhere new. I’ve been home now since early July, have a steady job and living situation and just recently became involved in a relationship with a guy I’ve known for years. I have no intentions of leaving the area anytime soon.
My problems started a couple months ago. I’m such an anxious wreak all of the time it’s affecting my work, the relationship I’m trying to get going with this guy I really care about and even the relationship with my family. I’m on edge all the time, I’m paranoid about the most outlandish things, absurdly irritable and on top of it all I have this constant, awful [head feels like it's going to pop, butterflies in my stomach, pressure on my chest] anxiety.
Like I said, I’ve always been anxious and I’ve always been able to deal with it. Jogging or biking is always how I’ve dealt with it in the past but this is just so out of hand. It’s like I’m constantly PMSing (and no, I’m definitely not pregnant.) I have no health insurance and between my bills, food and my dog, I have no money to splurge and see a doctor. I’ve never been a supporter of non-homeopathic medication, I won’t even take pain killers, but at this point..bring on the drugs! Any advice at all would be very, very, very much appreciated.

Also, I realize that it’s all probably a result of being cooped up like this when it’s not what I’m used to but I’ve been unstable for far too long. Stability, my family, my job, this guy; this is all what I really want right now.
I’m not at all ashamed of this, I just quite literally have no money to see a doctor. Unless someone can recommend some kind of low cost way to see a therapist? hah

Answer by Twisted Soull
Go and see a therapist or just any mental health professional, its not something to be ashamed of.

Question by lovemychihuahua: Advice wanted: chihuahua’s tummy trouble, Dog experts help plz?
my 3 month old baby has a upset tummy. I feed him only on a food brand called – Royal Canine. But i gave him boiled peas few days back that caused a upset tummy. he pooped 6 times the next day and a day after, he had 3-4 vomits.
Vet advised: 1. delcolax syrup – that i gave once.
2. Bonnesson syrup to be given for next 3-4 days.
but today morning he had a loose motion (lighter color than usual n smelled bad!!). Vet said he has a infection in stomach. And to feed him only Cerelac (baby food) dissolved in water.
Later today i spoke to a chihuahua breeder, the guy from whom i got the baby. He advised me to give him only homeopathy medicines: Arsenic alb 30 and Ipicac 30.
Its getting cold here and i keep him inside only now since he’s too small. He doesnt like his playpen but we prefer him to be staying there while he’snt well…. as he runs around most of the time n it mst be tiring for him.
Please advice me things i could take care of at this moment.
Also i feel he is looking slightly weak and he’s impatient too. doesnt listen to me at all… Is it a puppy behaviour? we shout at him sometimes he doesnt listen :-( !! I’ve had him for a month now.
he hasnt pooped all day today after that loose motion

Answer by 2bzy
I would follow the vet’s advice. It sounds like your puppy has a sensitive stomach, so you’ll always have to be careful–I mean, really, boiled peas! I have a dog that can’t change dog food or she’ll barf all over the place for a week, even though I mix it the way you’re supposed to.
Have you had the vet check your puppy for deafness? If he is deaf, you can still train him with hand signals. And if he’s not deaf, you really need a good training video to help you out. There are a lot of good ones available at bookstores and online.
Hope the little squirt gets better soon!

Question by Jessi: Is there any homeopathic remedies that help with depression?
Im totally depressed.. and since Im under 18 I cant get a prescription for anything
My mom is a homeopath so we have a wealth of remedies in our house… Does anyone know what remedies are good for symptoms of general depression?

Best answer:

Answer by Ashlie
Try St John’s Wort, it’s fairly effective at boosting ones mood. It cannot be taken in conjunction with depression medication, so if you do ever go on meds make sure you stop taking the herbs first.

Question by MeaCulpa: Terrible foot pain- “Morton’s neuroma” please help?
owwwwwwwwwww! So I’ve seen a poditrist, a foot expert at roadrunner, FOUR acupuncturists, a reflexologist and a ROLF therapist. Thus far only the poditrist was keenly familar with this condition. Of course he was the only one pushing for the non holistic treatment- cortisone shots and if that doesn’t work after a period of time- then the dreaded surgery.

I’ve got big ugly shoes now, try to rest (unsuccesfully) take a herbal anti- inflammatory and homeopathic things. I’ve also for the last week have worn a big, strapped boot with a crutch like what they give you after surgery. The boot has alleviated a little of the walking pain but not all.
What can else can I do? It’s been two months and I’m getting really frustrated with feeling like a cripple. Please help. I live in San Diego.

By the way- after doing the research I don’t want the ineffective shots or the surgery risk.

Answer by Footeez
This won’t cure your condition, but you may get some relief by raising the blankets off your feet at night. The pressure of bed covers on your feet while you’re sleeping makes any foot, toe, or lower leg problem worse. You could be surprised how much better your feet feel when they have room to move at night. Check out the website below for more information.
Best of luck to you.

Question by Miss May =]: Ear wax problems, help me please :( ?
Okay I am 17 and I have had this ear wax problem for most of my teenage life.. (you will probably wonder why I haven’t done anything about it already)

My ear wax in my left ear is really smelly (not like normal smell of ear wax) almost a mix of marmite and metal lol as weird as that sounds x] and I have been masking the smell by putting cotton wool in it all the time.. It has a slight reddish tinge to it, and I have tried ear drops but it hurt which is probably something to be concerned about because they work fine in my other ear.

We are a homeopathic family and I used to see a homeopath about it, but I am a very shy timid person and I hated it. Then my dad would take the mick out of me because of it which would lower my confidence even more. I dont want to see a doctor about it because of this, and my mum and dad dont know about it anymore, they think it has cleared up..

Are there any natural remedies that I can easily do at home that might help this problem?

Also what could this be? An infection?

Thank you

Question by <33Court<33: what vitamins help clear up skin? And how many different vitamins are safe to take per day?
What vitamins help clear up skin? I know vitamin c does but what others? and also how many can you take a day of different vitamins? Because some days I take vitamin c, calcium, my regular vitamin, and another one I cant think of right now. My mom tells me to take vitamin c so I don’t get sick and calcium because I don’t drink enough milk…so what helps skin and is there a limit?

Best answer:

Answer by Rawrness
there is no limit when taking vitamin c because vitamin c is soluble in water, so it doesn’t get stored in the body, instead it gets excreted out through urine. I am not sure about other vitamins, but i’m pretty sure there is a limit for other vitamins.

5 Tinnitus Remedies You Can Use to Help Ease Or Stop the Ringing in Your Ears

Tinnitus is something completely personal and unique to everyone. A ringing in your ears or head which can just start suddenly or gradually increase. Tinnitus sufferers experience different noises at different times and for varying lengths of time. Some people find their tinnitus loud and continuous whilst others may not even know they have it. As there is no actual source of the sound, tinnitus is very difficult to measure. There are so many tinnitus remedies and alternative techniques to cure your tinnitus.

There are so many tinnitus remedies out there that it really is a matter of trying them all out and hoping you find one of the alternative techniques to cure your tinnitus. If you are tearing your hair out and feel like you have tried everything to stop the ringing in your ears, read the following tips and try them out or at least look into them a little more. You never know, one of these alternative techniques to cure your tinnitus!

1. Minerals and herbal remedies. Some people take supplements such as zinc or magnesium to help relieve their tinnitus. Another popular herbal remedy for tinnitus is Ginkgo biloba, as are taking B vitamins which many people have found to cure tinnitus.

2. Homeopathic tinnitus remedies. There are literally loads of homeopathic remedies depending on the symptoms of your tinnitus and I do not have enough space to list the causes and tinnitus remedies here. If you are interested in trying homeopathic remedies for tinnitus all you have to do is search online.

3. Acupuncture. This is another popular remedy which people find to be very effective tinnitus relief for their tinnitus. However, many people note that the tinnitus relief is only temporary.

4. Hypnosis. As tinnitus is almost always exacerbated by stress and anxiety, hypnosis is an effective treatment for helping people overcome their stress patterns. Hypnotherapy promotes well-being and when used in conjunction with other remedies has good results. One session of hypnotherapy will not do the trick though. You will need to have a course of hypnotherapy.

5. Magnets. Some people say that using magnets to stimulate certain parts of the brain can help bring tinnitus relief. By placing magnets on the areas of the brain which have the highest blood flow (something thought to cause tinnitus) they hope to relieve the symptoms and stop the ringing in the ears.

Our tolerances to tinnitus are different so a tinnitus cure which helps one person may do nothing to help cure the next person with tinnitus. If you want to stop the ringing in your ears the first thing you should do is go to see your doctor. If your tinnitus is because of a build-up of wax in your ear then this can be easily removed and your tinnitus cured. Also, if you are taking medication be sure to check that none of them have tinnitus as a side effect. You doctor may be able to advise you of alternative techniques to cure your tinnitus.
