Kennel cough is a highly contagious upper respiratory illness that strikes dogs and can be spread to other pets like cats, birds, and rabbits.  It commonly occurs in places where large numbers of dogs are housed such as dog tracks, breeders, and boarding kennels.  This doesn’t mean that dogs living in private homes aren’t susceptible to kennel cough.  It is an airborne disease that can infect any dog anywhere, and as with most illnesses prevention is the best medicine.
