The biggest drawback for Nickel Metal Hydride batteries is the shelf life. I got gadgets and toys all around the house, so I constantly charging batteries to have them ready when I need them. There will be very little juice left if you put them in the shelf unused for a couple of months, a waste of time and energy. Hence, one of the biggest advancement in battery technology is the arrival of the new low discharge (labeled as pre-charged) Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. This is another great step in helping the environment. I have very few left of the old batteries since I started to replace all of them with low discharge batteries. Eneloops and Duracell are 2 of the best of its kind.
Pros:
-Low discharge.
-Fine quality product. Well constructed
-Conventional size and dimension. I had other batteries that I have to use a screwdriver to remove from my camera because it is fatter than other “AA’s”.
-Can be charged on your existing NiMh charger.
-Sleek and sexy design

-More expensive than ordinary NiMh
-Not available at many stores
-Rated not more than 2100 mAh

I purchased my first set of these batteries for my DSLR flash which takes 4 AA and really sucks the life out of any battery you throw at it. They last extremely well for the external flash! I have since used them in other devices as more of a general use and like a good batter should it just works.
I rated it a 5 star because of the long charge life both while in use but also shelf life with full charge. I let my batteries sit for a few months fully charged but just sitting in my camera bag. When I needed them I pulled them out with confidence and they worked very well.
The flash I used is the 580ex ii. I have recommended these batteries to everyone I talk to about batteries.
