Mederma? Cream with SPF 30, 1.76-Ounce Tubes

I had major shoulder surgery earlier this year with a hematoid under the scar that left a thicker scar than would be usual. I applied the gel up to three times daily (it is just inconvenient for me to apply all day long). I was ready to be realistic. The redness around the suture gradually evened out until there were no more irritation marks from putting tough bandages on and off daily. The gel forms almost a seal over the scar and it will flake off during the day – that’s why applying the gel often is important. My surgeon thought the scar healed over nicely in four months, but there is still a thin scar. There is also some sun-block in this product as a scar gets exposed to the sun, it will turn white. I also tried Bio-Oil, 2-Ounce Bottle for some minor scratches last year and it helped but was slightly greasy. This is not inexpensive gel, but if you look at what you hope to achieve it’s worth it. Also, Target has a scar gel with the exact same ingredients as Mederma, so it might be worth checking out.

I was shocked by how low this product was ranked, untill I remembered why I buy it and what its actually marketed for.
Over a year and half ago I bought this product hoping I had found a moisturizer that was proven to reduce acne scars. It also helped that it had SPF.
I felt I hit the motherload and I was right!
Whenever my skin feels irritates, I put this on and its soothed right away!
When I need sunblock, these baby works! I can actually feel the difference between the sun hitting the parts of my body that arent covered with this stuff!
This helps reduce my acne scars and any discoloration!
The only thing I wish was that the onion wasn’t so strong or I could put this closer around my eyes.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff and they better not ever dicontinue it!
PS.
Be careful with the expiration

I had 8 stitches on my face, 5 in one place and 3 in another location. The place where I had 5 stitches, I applied this religiously, several times every day. The place where i had 3 stitches, I applied it just about every day. About 3 months after I had the stitches removed and used Mederma, I had a chemical peel done, which is also a good way to diminish scars! Interestingly, the place where I had the most stitches but applied Mederma more frequently, it was fine. The other area, no damage done, but it actually stung a bit more there than anywhere else on the face. 2 wounds obtained at the same time, healed at different rates. I don’t think that’s a sugar pill effect.
The SPF can irritate some people’s skin(it irritated mine a little), but for the first year, exposure to sun can cause permanent discoloration on a scar. IMO, It’s best to tolerate a temporary little(very minor!)annoyance and heal well rather than not be irritated and have permanent damage.
When it comes to scars, the main goal is to stimulate the cell turnover rate. The most effective ways are chemical peels or laser resurfacing, especially for atrophic scars. TCA and glycolic peels are helpful, and most likely, you will need more than one treatment (depending on the strength of the peel). Regarding collagen and scarring: it will only plump up the skin temporarily- collagen is molecularly far too large to penetrate into the dermis. If you want to get rid of some scars, be them on the face or wherever, check out Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) &TCA 20% Chemical Peel solution, 30mL (Professional). But also read up on them before you do them or have them done. Know what you’re doing and what to expect.
Glycol 35% is a good starting point

I had a mole removed back in November, after dealing with an ugly bubble-type scar for 3 months, I found an advertisement in a magazine for this stuff. While the scar has not disappeared completely, I have been using it twice a day (it recommended 3 times a day for 8 weeks on new scars, 3-6 months on existing scars) for almost a month now and I have noticed a significant change in appearance and size of the scar. Even other people around me have noticed how well its working. I haven’t had any irritation or rash from it, it doesn’t have a strange smell or leave any kind of smell on my body. I would recommend this to anyone trying to rid themselves of unsightly scars. If I remember to do it, I will update this again in another month regarding progress.

The product unfortunately gave me a rash (I was probably allergic to the sunscreen component) after a single use. I suggest applying a little bit on a small area of skin and leaving it overnight to check for sensitivities before you try using it.
I later tried the no-sunscreen version and I had no problems with it.
I give it 4 stars for their money back guarantee. You can return it to any place you got it from, no questions asked. I got it from Amazon, and even though the package was open, all I needed was make a phone call and the money was back in my account.
