I would love to hear some things from people who have or know others who have lyme disease. Heres the situation:
My husband got a tick bite back in may, we thought nothing of it. He got a strange rash- we again thought nothing of it
. A few months back my husband got numbness in his legs so he went to the doctors. The doc found enzymes in his blood telling her it could be lyme. So she put him on doxycycline for 29 days. He went off it, had no symptoms for a couple of weeks and is now getting symptoms again so he went to get a blood test to get the actual lyme disease blood test rather than just a general blood test. We dont know the results yet but we’re both so very concerned. His eye sight is bothering him and he is in extreme pain! He is also extremely fatigued.
Heres some questions I have: what are long term symptoms if you catch it too late?
Is there any homeopathic remedies to follow?
Should we see a doctor that studies things other than western medcene or one certified for lyme?
Is there any good books out there?

Lyme disease is in the eye of a huge controversy in the medical world. your best defense right now is information–lots of it. I recommend you go to the following websites first:

http://www.canlyme.com

Then I recommend getting ahold of this book: “The Lyme Disease Solution,” by Dr. Kenneth Singleton.
Then I recommend you find yourself an MD affilitated with ILADS (see website above) to be properly evaluated for Lyme and OTHER tick-borne infections (there are many). Best of luck to you.
29 days of doxycycline can only possibly work to get rid of Lyme if it is given at the time of the rash or before. If any later than that, several months of antibiotics, up to a year or more is needed. He will need to see a doctor who follows the ILADS guidelines of Lyme treatment, instead of the IDSA guidelines. http://ilads.org/
Here are some places to get referrals for good Lyme doctors. http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org/referral/LogIn.php?setcookie=yes

It sounds very much like your husband has Lyme disease. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the test came back negative. Unless a Western Blot test was done at IgeneX, Stony Brook, or MDL, negative Lyme tests mean absolutely nothing. Even if done by those labs I just mentioned, a negative test still does not rule out Lyme. Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis that is made with the help of tests and symptoms. Unfortunately, most doctors are not Lyme literate, and do not know this.
Hopefully you can get some good referrals from the links I provided. But depending on where you live, you may need to travel a long distance to see a good Lyme doctor. They also may not be on your insurance plan, but some doctors will work with you financially if you absolutely cannot pay the full fee.
