Borax (old fashioned laundry detergent – check the laundry aisle at the supermarket) mixed with honey.
put it on a dish near where they are and they’ll come and feed, take it back to the nest and it takes about 24 hours to kill them, but it works a treat and doesn’t poison your home with sprays.

You have to find out exactly where the ants are entering your home. (from outside). Once you do, make a solution of 5 parts boric acid (available a any hardware store or drugstore) and 5 parts vinegar. Spray the area throughfully. You may have to do this several times to be effective. Or, you can use Pepperment oil, full strength, sprayed on the area. It may not be effective as commercial sprays, but will work if you continue to repeat treatments. For crawling ants, try 3 parts grape jelly, 1 part boric acid, in a tray, where the ants are entering your home. They will eat it, and die. Or, put BORAX, available in any good supermarket, into the crevices where the ants are coming from. Ants follow the WATER, so keep this in mind.

If you know where they are coming in and you do not want to use anything toxic you can use cayenne pepper it burns there feet and they will not walk through it.
Where they are coming in make a ring about three inches
    eight cm wide
They some times will find another way in my Grand mum circled the house in it

You can get fresh hot peppers and put them in the blender use three or four depending on size add one litre or four cups of water blend on high for three Min’s let sit for thirty Min’s and strain. Use a very fine strainer or cheese cloth
put the liquid in a spray bottle and spray any thing that they are eating soak it

If you use chili pepper it may stain things so use one of the light coloured peppers

This will not bother people with allergies and is not toxic so you won’t hurt your children or pets if they get into it :D

For ants on the counter top, wipe down counter top with white undiluted vinegar. To prevent ants from coming into the house, or getting into cupboards, sprinkle dried mint or red pepper where they are entering the house and in the cupboards. If you know where the anthills are make a mixture of 50 percent borax (sold in laundry aisle of supermarkets) and 50 percent confectioner’s sugar and place near anthill. The ants are attracted to the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar combination back to the nest to feed the queen and other ants. Soon all ants will be dead. Do not put this mixture where children and pets can ingest it. To get rid of anthills, pour 3 gallons of boiling water down them. This is best when done when the ants are active and at the surface. Do not do it near flowers or they will die.
