I’ve dealt with constant pain for 6 years and this past year (07) has been the worst, summer was bad, and now winter feels like its killing me. The slightest draft and and I go to aching even worse and its not feasible to keep the heat set on around 80 just to ease the aches and pains a little especially at work.

I don’t like using prescriptions as I prefer homeopathic and holistic medicine so finally after 6 years asking my dr. for pain medication is not something I want to do unless it is an only option. I’m at a point now just over the last few weeks that sitting, standing, laying, everything, just hurts and it’s getting kind of depressing.

Do any of you suffer with fibromyalgia? Do your symtoms seem to intensify in the winter? What are some of the things you do to ease your discomfort?

How I long for summers return…

yes, i have fibromyalgia. i’m sorry to hear you do as well!
i’ve had it severly for 18 yrs. ug!!! i really sympathise with you and yes… keep warm! can you put a space heater by you at work so it doesn’t effect anyone else? great option. ask your boss, i don’t think they can say no… that’s discrimination on your behalf of not trying to work with you on your diagnosed disability. it would be beneficial to both of you..keeping you warm and comfortable makes you more productive and able to perform your job!!!!!
the cold winter months make me nearly inoperable so i do all i can to stay comfortable. if you can squeeze in a nap when you get home. rest is a must (total relaxation) , try meditating,
warm bubble baths help me as well as prayer.
i consider myself still younger and am on social security/disablity now at such a young age…fair/no…but that’s how the cards fell for me. pain has been a part of me 24/7 for many yrs. and the best you can do is try and find comfort/whatever works for you.
i was in a double blind study/ i volunteered for taking a medicine they called pregabalin. the results for me helped so much and i knew immediately i was getting the real thing the first or second dose i took. the fda recently approved the med. for fibromyalgia tx. and i’m glad i participated to try to help others in my situation. the med. by the name of lyrica has been on the market for a few yrs. and is the same thing as the pregabalin i was taking. ask your dr. to prescribe you either med. it will….alleviate so many of the effects of fibromyalgia. i think it’s a miracle drug!!!! it’s not like taking a pain killer like a narcotic!!!!
also, very gentle massage when your warm helps. try, i say try and stay as stress free as possible/ avoid what stressful things you can. get as much exercise as you can wether it’s walking or whatever. eat a good diet and pray, pray, and pray somemore.
at home, it is possible to be in a heat controlled environment as whatever your heat source company is …they have special programs you can sign up for that save you lot’s of money for your disability/diagnosis. i save approx. 60-70% off my electric bill every month. that’s big bucks, and i am extreamly thankful.
last but not least you could always move to a hot area say arizona. that’s pretty drastic though.
good luck and best wishes for a little bit of relief. feel free to email me for more info. or just words of comfort.
