The book failed to provide any statistics on children, or when their list of co-existing conditions are most likely to begin to develop. But one could speculate that this probably happens sometime in the mid-school age years as the challenges of unidentified, or unmanaged,  ADHD start to overwhelm them both mentally and physically.

Why are so may turning their back on convention stimulant medications?

As you probably know most cases of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are treated with stimulant medications such as Ritalin and Adderall. While these types of medications can at times be helpful, when monitored carefully, there is no shortage of both long and short term side effects.

There is also some evidence to suggest they may be toxic for children age 6 and younger. And then there is the 30 percent chance stimulant medications will not improve the primary symptoms of inattention/distractibility, impulsivity, and hyperactivity/restlessness .

Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest that the current list of prescription medications does anything but mask the symptoms. Therefore making long term use a definite possibility, and opening the door for addiction.

Homeopathic ADHD remedies a safer alternative?

Homeopathic  ADHD remedies seem to be an area of treatment which has few, if any, side effect risks and according to a couple of small to medium sized studies seems to produce long term benefits over 50 percent of the time. These same studies showed the failure rate about equal to that of convention stimulant treatment options.

In all fairness it should be pointed out that homeopathic ADHD remedies are only as good as their composition of ingredients and the skill used in formulation.

In conclusion, all treatments for attention deficit disorder have their pros and cons with none being 100 percent effective. Additionally, numerous large studies have shown a well thought out combination of multiple treatments is more effective than any singular solution. One example would be the combination of homeopathic ADHD remedies with cognitive behavior therapy(CBT).
