Hurley, the love of our life, was told he had a grade 2 heart murmur. At only 1 1/2 yrs. then, we didn’t worry so much being the fact our vet said it was very mild and innocent. Didn’t seem like a threat.
Now, he’s two and was recently seen for an ear infection, as he tends to get. Upon the checkup, our doctor listened in to his heart and his face expression was not at all promising. He then went on to tell us the murmur definitely has changed, and that it most likely sounds at about grade 5.
We were pretty much numb at the moment, and didn’t have much to ask and talk about. He just gave us a brief breakdown of the possible causes, and possible solutions. We’re in waiting to see the cardiologist in July, and let me say I’ve been a mess.
Our Pit Bull Hurley is the light in our house! He’s such a huge part of our family and part of me. I refuse to think about losing him at this point, though my husband does a good job at keeping me in reality.
As were waiting, we’ve begun to think about what ways this can take us. One thing I’ve definitely given thought to is homeopathic remedies. Natural medicine in general, since we ourselves, are no strangers to it. I would hate to think of administering Hurley drugs for the rest of his life! Whatever is needed we’ll do, but we would like alternatives for the best.
Does anyone have any experience they can share regarding the heart murmur situation?
And any input regarding holistic vets?
We’re in central California, any vets in the area you’d recommend?
Thanks for the answers so far…
No one with heart murmur survival/treatment experiences?

@TritanBear- What holistic vet do you see? In California? Website? Thanks!

I have a dull pain in the left ear. It is very itchy inside and if i put my finger in or around the ear canal, the dull pain returns. it doesn’t hurt too much, and is the most irritated if i’m laying on my side or touching it.

it has been irritated for about two days. i have not taken any ibuprofen or tried any other remedies. I don’t have insurance and hope that this will clear up on it’s own. Any ideas how to treat this, or if it’s serious, what it could be? Do these symptoms sound like something you have experienced? Am open to homeopathic remedies.

Other notes:
-No fever
-No headache
-Can hear okay
-Dryness inside the ear
-Can feel it in the top of my jaw if i open wide
-Putting pressure on the back cartilage of the ear, connected to my neck, brings the most irritation
-The pain is dull, not throbbing.
-Biggest problem is dryness and itching.

Thanks SO much!

I went to my doctor for a pulse/throb inside my ear. There is no pain, but every so often throughout the day, I get pounding in my ears. I told her it sounds like someone is inside my ear, tapping on my ear drum. She looked at it and said I have fluid in my middle ear and told me to take antihistamines to clear it. Well, I’ve taken Sudafed/Claritin-D in the day (decongestants), Benadryl at night (antihistamines) and have even tried Medrol (prednisone steroids).

On top of that, I’ve tried homeopathic drops from the drug store, rubbing alcohol on a swab, and even someone’s home remedy of holding a blow dryer up to my ear. Still no better. I think it’s got to be an infection because it’s not getting better. Any other ideas? Help, it’s sooo annoying!

Please only serious answerers..
Last night my dog (12 lb cockapoo, 3 years old) was suffering from an ear ache. I didn’t like to see her in pain so I used a drop in each ear of this

It’s a homeopathic children’s ear drop. Well this morning she threw up. She hasn’t thrown up since then. She has had some ice and water, but I’m not sure she’s eaten anything (but that is protocol for an animal that has vomited ). I used the ear cleaning saline solution that I usually do on her to get any of the drops out that may have been lingering. How can I tell if she’s running a fever? She’s lethargic, but not lifeless. She still tried to explore and roam the yard when I took her outside. I really am a good pet owner, I just made a mistake. What can I do??
I just took her temperature and it is normal. Her ears have regained normal coloring as well. She’s a cockapoo and they have chronic ear problems (as one answerer mentioned) so I never know when it’s serious or when it’s just general ear troubles. I called the vet and they said she should be fine as long as she is eating and doesn’t have a high temp. The saline solution that I used today was what the vet recommended over the phone. She even said that there are human medicines that you can safely give your pet. Benedryl, Dramamine, Aspirin (never Tylenol or Ibupropen).. in certain small doses. Thanks!

hi all, it is so stupid that it takes a freakign week to get an appt with my vet. I cant watch my little “monkey” my little chihuahua suffer. she is scratching her ear and shaking her head. the ear looks normal, no signs of discharge, smell or mite bites. What shoulld I do in meanwhile. I have some ear medication – homeopathic stuff for humans. it says it safe to use on infants to calm pain… what should i do> please help thank you

I’ve had some ear wax lately in my left ear, and I found some ear wax removal drops that we must have bought a while back (without carefully reading the box, which listed the ear drops as being homeopathic).

The active ingredients are Causticum 12X, Graphites 15X, Lachesis 12X, and Lycopodium 12X.
The inactive ingredient is *glycerin*.

These drops are essentially glycerin drops, since the high diluting procedure almost completely (if not completely) eliminates the original substance from the mixture. As it turns out, glycerin is known to help dissolve ear wax. The homeopathic elements have, in many clinical studies, been shown to have no efficacy at all. However, the drops themselves worked. The big question is, was it the homeopathic aspect that worked or the purely chemical aspect that made it work? Was this company (Similasan) pulling a trick – making it look like their homeopathy really works?

my ears are ringing, and I read there is no cure? Ideas? Do homeopathic remedies work?

Did anybody of you cure an ear infection of an adult with a homeopathic remedy? What did help?
