Question by angrydoc: I have a question for Soul Doctor regarding homeopathy.?
In a previous Q&A here in Y! Answers, you said that:

“Well to put it in short it (homeopathy) triggers your own immune system with diluted amount of remedies which are mostly derived from toxic materials which help your body to cure itself,”

My question is, with all due respect, how does it do that exactly? Does it trigger the activation of B-cells and/or T-cells? What cell surface receptors and intracellular messenger molecules are involved in this process? What about diseases that don’t mess with the immune system such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, liver disease, etc etc. The pathologies of such diseases do not involve the immune system so how is “triggering” your immune system going to help you there?

Thank you for all the answers. So far, no one has given me what I am asking for: a biochemical/molecular explanation for the “effects” of homeopathy. Instead, I get stuff about quantum physics, electromagnetism and a conspiracy theory.

SoulDoc: Wouldn’t the theory of homoeopathy blindly ‘triggering the immune system’ actually create problems like auto-immune diseases?

IF homoeopathy somehow triggered the immune system, might this create an inflammatory response? If you take into consideration the fact that many of the symptoms of a disease are actually the product of your own immune system fighting the disease….

Perhaps rather than boosted or triggered, our immune system needs to be more specific?

Certainly with certain types of diseases, vaccines are surely the best way to make the immune response more specific? Adjuvants for example, can be made specific for cell types, e.g B-cells or T-cells. Some vaccines that are being created also contain lipid-micelle based delivery systems which deliver the antigen in a more specific way to target cells.

When you say that homoeopathy triggers or boosts the immune system, what part of it exactly?

Question by Cassidy: Stem Cell Treatment Homeopathy ?
My Dad has been taking stem cell therapy threw Homeopathy. My Dad has been dealing with Diabetes for many years. He suffers from painful foot and leg pains that hurt so much he some times cant walk. He has been taking a regiment Homeopathy of 10 drops of stem cells every day for 7 days then stop for 7 days and starts again. He claims that this is helping him and that he is feeling a lot better. My question would be is this really working to treat him or is he thinking he is getting better and actually is not. I am very serious when I ask this because I would like to know is that Quackery or actual Medicine. Thank you
The stem cells are “Not From Humans” they are from “PLANTS” (Plant Stem Cells) just thought I would clear that up, sorry I didn’t put that in my question. My Dad does have a regular Doctor that he goes to regularly this Dr. told him the pain in his legs and feet is called “Neuropathy” and prescribed a medication called “Gabapentin” but this medication makes him very drowsy and dizzy. Dad seems to trust his Homeopathic Therapist more than regular Doctor. The question still remains Is Dad getting well from these Plant stem Cells?

Homeopathic medicine does not work.
The only effect here is the “placebo effect” – which can be very powerful. Because your father believes he is being treated, his body is naturally responding, even though homeopathic medicine has no actual effect. Homeopathy is not medicine, it is pure quackery. It is advisable for him to see a real doctor. To repeat: homeopathy DOES NOT WORK.

My mother in-law lived to be 97 and the only medication she ever used were homeopathic remedies. She swore by them and they certainly worked for her.
I have never heard about stem cell homeopathy. I would question it too as we know that stem cell research has been so limited even for traditional medicine. Why not ask your Dad’s homeopathic doctor for some literature about the research done to develop this remedy? Of course, we do know that many people have positive results even when given a placebo. I guess it is possible that is why he feels better. All the best to you and your Dad.

Because people say that they have been cured of dangerous diseases by these alternate systems of medicines whereas allopathy says that there is no permanent cure is possible for certain diseases like diabetes and with medication, they can be under control.

Ithink that youi need to try and see what works for you. Western medicine seemas to prescribe and biucnh of crap whereas Ayurveda, Daoist Medicine , Folk Medicine and Naturopathy prescribe changes in your life, such as drink more water, exercise, use dry sauna’s , fast, eat certain foods, meditate, relax, cut out negative influences, take certain natural medicines, which when unioslated may have synergestic effects with other lesser know chemical and stuff within the roots leading to a better effect or curing ability. As for completly curing some diseases this is a case by case thing and some people will need to make drastic changes in lifestyle as well as use what is available from western medicine, in my opiniopn they should be one medicine and what doesn’t work in western medicine shoud be erased and vice versa. Many disease that are food related are very curable and even better is to prevent them by living the Ayurveda lifestyle. “Diseases” such as obesity, cholesterol problem, gout and stuff like that.
