Question by Rose A: Helping a friend through depression? What can/do I do?
Okay, guys this is really serious. So if anyone has personal experience with depression, or is an expert on the subject, input would be greatly appreciated….

My friend is depressed. I was pretty sure, so I looked up everything about teen depression on WebMD, and all the other sites and yeah, I don’t have a diploma but I’m fairly confident in the diagnosis that she is depressed.

My question to you is this: What the hell do I do about it?

I’ve been telling her to talk to someone, but she has major trust issues so calling a Hotline, or even talking to a counsellor at school is out of the question.

She doesn’t confide in any of her other friends, except for me, and so that isn’t really a good thing.

Because of her major trust issues I don’t feel comfortable telling people, because she won’t talk to me anymore, and then that would just cause everything to stay inside – and that can’t be good.

I would suggest her talking to someone at her church, but her family doesn’t go to an actual “church” but has pretty much weekly church sessions with family friends and whatnot. And she doesn’t like them, and anything she tells them would be told directly to her parents.

Now, her family is kind of strange. They’re very religious and also into the whole homeopathic remedy things. They don’t believe in anti-depressants (and would never allow her to be on them), therapists, or anything like that. Her little sister is Special Needs, and takes precedence, and I think that that has a lot to do with everything. Because her parents know that they can’t have high expectations with her sister, they expect her to be perfect.

It’s not fair, and I think that it is really, really not helping (if not contributing) to her depression.

She and her parents fight all the time, about anything and everything. Sometimes they get along, but most of the time they’re at each other’s throats.

She also pretends to be perfectly fine, so I think that it would come as a major shock to her parents and they might not believe her at first.

Telling her parents sounds like a good idea, but then you meet her parents. And then you realize that although they love her to pieces, they would probably only make the situation worse. I wish that that wasn’t the truth, but it is.

My friend has been depressed and hiding it for probably 18 months. She claims that she’s always felt this way, but I’m not entirely certain that’s just something that she’s saying.

She used to cut, and she also used to take excessive amounts of Advil. As far as I know, she does neither of those things anymore. (Possibly because I asked her to promise me that she wouldn’t; she promised, and she’s very good at keeping her word.)

She always talks about how she’s worthless and no one cares, and when I tell her that I care (because I do, she’s been my best friend for 10 years, and is practically my sister) she denies that that’s actually how I feel because she thinks that no one CAN or WANTS to care about her.

Which is beyond not true.

She talks about how she sees no point in living, and feels dead even though she’s alive. It is really not good.

Homeopathic Treatment – A Popular Natural Alternative

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine which assists our body to heal itself. It aims to stimulate our body’s defense mechanisms. The classical or singles remedies treatment is the most common form of homeopathic treatment.

The Combination or the remedies that contain two to four ingredients is also another example of homeopathic treatment. This diagnostic approach is the same as the classical treatment. Other diagnostic styles may include electro dermal biofeedback or kinesiology muscle testing.

The Complex or the remedies that contains 25 ingredients – This diagnostic approach is similar to the combination treatment. There are multiple ingredients used to encourage what is known as lymphatic or homeopathic drainage. This is best for complex, and difficult cases where multiple problems occur simultaneously. This drainage helps in draining the toxins from our system or organs that overload due to, genetic, chronic and environmental factors. The duration homeopathic treatments depend on what kind of illness you have and its severity.

The homeopathic medicine will be given normally in the form of tablets, pellets or powders which should be dissolved in your mouth or you may be given a liquid form of remedy. Be sure that you read all the instructions before taking these medicines.

Homeopathic medicine must be stored in a cool dark place that is away from anything with a strong scent.
