Question by toffee: I am suffering from left arm frozen shoulder?
The pain in left hand started six months back, with experiencing pain when due to sudden jerk. The pain would subside in few minutes on its own. I thought it to due to some sprain. Gradually the pain became severe with time. Last three months, I have been unable to lift my hand fully or brush my hair etc etc. The pain has not subsided yet. I am unable to sleep in night. I have tried homeopathy, aurveda medicines but not to any benefit. I took pain killers for more than a month but understood that it is not the solution. I have taken 15days physiotherapy sessions which improved my situation a bit only. I am trying exercises at home as advised by physio. However my hand feels weak and the pain is not going away.
Can anyone help me, advise me any medicine for pain and immobility? How many days this will continue?

Modern Skin Care and Its Links to the Past

Three thousand years ago, so one story goes, the first soap was made by Romans using animal fat and wood ash or lye. A thousand years later, their ancestors discovered that urine was beneficial to making a good cleansing product. It sounds all wrong, doesn’t it, that a product we use to clean and care for our skin, has its origins in, well, seemingly unclean ingredients. Soap has grown up, though, and is practically unrecognisable from what it was.

The Romans get popular credit for being the first to make it, though some schools of thought insist that prehistoric man also used a kind of cleanser. However, if this is the case, there is little evidence as to what the ingredients were. So, back to what we do know – which is that soap has historically been made from animal fat, caustic soda and a human waste product.

Here’s the science bit.

Urine contains ammonium carbonate, which reacts with oils and fats in wool to form soap. Lye or caustic soda is also known as sodium hydroxide. There are different processes – for example, with cold or heat – and the name for the way in which these ingredients become soap is called saponification. What actually happens in the saponification process is that fatty acids in the olive oil or animal fats are released using the lye and produce glycerol.

While the basis of modern soaps remains similar, the ingredients have been replaced somewhat over the centuries and what we now call soap often bears no resemblance to its origins. In the early days, ths cleansing material would most likely not have been what could be called a pampering, gentle, nurturing experience – lye can be harsh on the skin, after all.

The French can claim they developed it into more than just a rudimentary cleansing experience. For example, animal fats have often been replaced by olive oil, a more refined and attractive product. As with any recipe or, the quality of the end product is governed by the quality of what goes into it in the first place.

The French added perfume and made the process of mixing ingredients as precise a process as they could. Before you start thinking that modern technology means the modern soap is totally divorced from its origins, think again.

Some products, such as those from the Korres skin care range, come from thousands of years of experience, experimentation and development. Korres was the first ever homeopathic pharmacy in Athens, Greece, and the company has taken on this heritage, using herbs, fruits and vegetables in its recipes and only products produced by animals, like honey and milk. Sounds far more appetising than the original recipes.

Are Anti Aging Skin Care Products For You?

When you looked in the mirror this morning did you wonder whether it was time to start using anti aging skin care products? Maybe the face that was yawning back at you was a bit of a stranger. Or maybe she looked more like your mother than you ever realized. The question is: are you ready to slip gracefully into the skin of a middle aged woman, or do you want to cheat the hourglass for a few more years?

All around you are people who welcome their mid-life look as a natural part being alive. Age spots mixing in with freckles, crows feet showing up around the eyes, smile line gracing the cheeks — these can all be appreciated as a form of natural beauty. But is it right for you? For many women the answer is “No.”

Industries promoting youth, health, and beauty are still mainstays of the American economy. Beauty practices stretch back in time as far as recorded history itself. Would-be Cleopatras of ancient Egypt kept pots of precious cosmetics by their sides and in their burial chambers. The renowned Habsburg beauty Empress Elizabeth (“Sisi”) designed a rigorous health regimen around a strict diet, regular exercise, and the daily use of homeopathic anti aging skin care products such as strawberry cream, olive oil baths, and fresh fruit facial masks.

Perhaps you are considering a more direct alternative than gentle skin treatments. Are you looking into collagen replacement techniques to smooth out your wrinkles and crows feet? Thinking about surgical procedures such as an eyelid tuck for a more youthful look? While increasingly common, and growing more affordable each year, these techniques are still medical procedures and must be given careful consideration.

So you’ve decided that appearing in the next episode of “Nip/Tuck” isn’t for you, but you still want to do something to slow down the march of time. An easy first step is to start, or pump up, a daily exercise routine. Something as simple — and inexpensive — as walking can promote better health, firm up muscle tone, and relieve stress.

The next step is to invest in anti aging skin care products that fit your budget and your mindset. You can easily find choices ranging from all natural options to homemade remedies to “secrets of the stars” at your local drug stores or beauty shops. You can also look in newspapers, magazines and, of course, the internet.

If you decide that it is time for direct intervention – that you can’t stand your furrowed brow, crows feet, or saggy smile any longer – take time to research a reputable plastic surgeon and talk with him/her about your goals and options. Surgery is a riskier endeavor, but the results can be stunning.

The choice is yours to make, whether it is to defy your years through surgery, exercise, or a regular routine incorporating anti aging skin care products, or it is to go gently into that good night that is middle age. Either way, let your beauty shine.
