Question by Cathy B: how to make homemade bath salt out of household supplies?

Best answer:

Answer by 4cryinoutloud
Very easy, Epson salts, food coloring and essential oils (your choice of color and scent). It only takes a drop or two from an eye dropper of color and scent. It makes a great Christmas gift if you put it in a decorative bottle.

You can get the essential oils at any craft store. I chose Rose for mine. If you have to use household supplies try vanilla extract for your scent. It will turn the salts a brown color.

Alternative Therapies For Diabetes

Alternative therapies are helpful as adjuncts to medical treatment.

Exercise Conditioning

This improves the body’s ability to use insulin. Type I patients who exercise regularly can usually lower their insulin dosage, and Type II patients can often eliminate the need for oral hypoglycemics. Exercise also improves circulation, and may help prevent leg and foot problems.

Homeopathy

Practitioners may prescribe phosphorous to help stabilize blood sugar levels.

Meditation, Self Hypnosis, and Yoga

These and other relaxation techniques can help lower the levels of stress that may elevate blood glucose.

Nutrition Therapy.

The basic diabetic diet is described under self Treatment. In addition, many dietitians urge eating beans regularly, as they can help blunt the postmeal rise in glucose levels.

Self Treatment

All patients must learn to test their blood sugar levels at home and adjust their food exercise medication regimens on a daily basis. Parents should assume this responsibility for young children; by age 9 or 10, most youngsters can use a self monitoring device. People with diabetes, especially children and teenagers, need emotional support and continual education to accept responsibility for their own care. Joining a group for diabetic patients or sending a child to a diabetes camp can make it easier to cope with the disease. A diabetes diet is similar to the healthful diets now recommended for all Americans: Obtain most of your calories from complex carbohydrates, such as vegetables, legumes, fruits, and whole grains, and rely less on animal foods for protein. Avoid refined sugars and restrict fat and cholesterol intake to help reduce the risk of heart disease. When diabetes is first diagnosed, you should consult with a registered dietitian to develop meal plans compatible with your tastes and lifestyle, and learn to follow the exchange lists developed by the American Diabetes Association. These lists provide simple formulas to assure that you get an appropriate number of calories and other nutrients each day. Eventually, you will not need to rely as heavily on them. In fact, with careful self testing, you can learn to increase or decrease your insulin dosage to accommodate an occasional departure from your usual diet. People with diabetes often have poor circulation and are susceptible to skin ulcers, especially on the legs and feet. Fit shoes carefully to avoid corns and other foot problems that can develop into a serious infection. Also keep toenails trimmed. If you have difficulty caring for your feet, see a podiatrist. Carry in your wallet identification indicating that you have diabetes so that you can receive prompt medical care if you are in an accident or have a high or low blood sugar reaction. Also, be alert for signs of an insulin overdose , and carry a source of sugar to use if one occurs.

Other Causes of High Blood Sugar

Certain medications can raise blood sugar. 50 too can diseases affecting the pancreas. Pregnant women sometimes develop gestational diabetes, which can be detected with a blood glucose test, usually in the second trimester.

Information For Travel First Aid

The Remedies below are recommended for problems particularly associated with traveling and vacations.

Motion Sickness

The sensation of motion when traveling affects the balance of the inner ear and can result in feelings of nausea, dizziness, and anxiety.

Treatment

Acupressure Exert pressure using thumb on inside of either wrist, 1 1/2 in/38mm up from bottom of hand. Massage firmly on this spot for a minute, then repeat on other wrist. Commercially-produced wristbands with nodules designed to rub on these exact spots are widely available and very effective.

Bach Flower Remedies Take Bach Rescue Remedy before and during journey.

Aromatherapy Essential oils of peppermint and ginger can be used to relieve symptoms. Add four drops to a lotion and rub into the chest. Further drops sniffed from a handkerchief may ease nausea. Herbal Medicine Either take two ginger root capsules half an hour before traveling or chew a piece of peeled ginger root during the journey.

Homeopathy There are several measures to suit various travel ailments: Petroleum, Nux vomica, and Cocculus for vomiting and nausea; Tabacum for sweating and giddinesss; and Borax for anxiety. Sepia 6c may ease nausea brought on by the smell of food.

Jetlag

An extra problem caused by flying to faraway places for exotic vacations is jetlag. Travel through different time zones confuses the body’s natural day/night rhythm and can result in tiredness, loss of concentration, and general disorientation over when to eat or sleep.

Treatment

Aromatherapy Use lavender to relax, or rosemary or lemon to stimulate and awaken.

Homeopathy On arrival, take Cocculus 6c three times a day for three days. Arnica 6c, taken every three hours during the journey, then twice a day for three days on arrival, also helps.

Consult a qualified practitioner/therapist for:

Cranial Electrical Stimulation This is occasionally used as part of craniosacral therapy.

Sunburn

Sunburn results when the skin is overexposed to UV rays. Treat blistered or extremely reddened skin as for Burns.

Prevention

- Sunburn can usually be avoided by taking some obvious precautions:

- keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day

- build up your exposure slowly, especially if you have fair skin

- protect your skin with sunblock and suntan lotions

- cover your head and shoulders.

Treatment

Hydrotherapy

Take a cold bath or shower to soothe skin. Mix oatmeal, baking soda, or vinegar to water.

Herbal Medicine Apply aloe vera gel to soothe and aid healing. Alternatively, bathe the affected area in cold water then add two drops of lavender oil, or make a cold compress of calendula infusion.

Naturopathy Soak in cold water; apply vitamin E cream when dry. Eyes can be soothed by lying down and placing a slice of cucumber on each one for 15 minutes.

Smoke Deter – Is it the Next Sure Thing to Quit Smoking?

In trying to fight an uphill battle to advocate a smoke-free environment, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements endorsed by tobacco firms. Everyone acknowledges smoking is not good for health. Even manufacturers of tobacco products stamp the little warning message on the side of their packages. However, few take it to heart as the practice of smoking is prevalent in society.

Many treatments are offered on the market, promising the hapless smoker that he will achieve his goal in kicking the bad habit in no time. More often than not, it turns into a moving goal as the urge to quit smoking is not just a physical one. The psychological part of smoking needs to be addressed as the process can be waylaid by a simple urban legend of putting on weight when one quits smoking.

Due to rising concern in using chemical agents to replace the cravings of nicotine, Smoke Deter is an alternative product which is developed as a homeopathic solution. The science of homeopathy is not new in the treatment of illnesses and addictions. It blends natural ingredients, normally plant-based, into a formulation to neutralize the habit without negative side effects.

Smoke Deter is a culmination of such ingredients selected by homeopathic experts. It claims to have no known drug interactions and comes as an easy-to-use nasal spray. As one goes through the process to quit smoking, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, increased appetite (hence the urban legend), irritability and anxiety sets in. These are expected as nicotine targeted pleasure areas of the brain. Upon its absence, the body reacts in accordance to a drug addict not getting his usual fix. The natural ingredients in Smoke Deter serve to address every symptom. In so doing, the ex-smoker is able to endure the withdrawal with significantly less distress.

As in consumption of any drug or medication, consult your doctor beforehand. Although a product boasts no known side effects, there is always the risk of you finding one.

Homeopathic Natural Home Remedies and Holistic Treatment

Homeopathy is a holistic approach to treatment and its origins can be traced back to the late eighteenth century. The main principle upon which the discipline is founded is that the administering of substances that can cause symptoms in healthy people will be able to alleviate those very same symptoms in sick patients if administered in very dilute quantities. This approach has been found to have some merit and has become increasingly popular because of the lack of side effects. It is believed that homeopathy treatment act as a stimulant for the body’s own healing mechanism. Homeopathy is therefore a holistic medicine that is closely related to many of the natural and alternative treatments like herbal medicine and naturopathic medicine.

To give you a better perspective of homeopathy medicine we can say that it rests on three basic principles.

Cold kills cold

This is a philosophy similar to the treatment of certain allergies today. According to this belief, if the symptoms of your sickness, whether a flu or a cold, are similar to the symptoms manifested from mercury poisoning, then it would serve as your homeopathic remedy.

Infinitesimal Dose

According to this principle the potency of homeopathic remedies increases, the more diluted it is. Homeopathy remedies are therefore almost always highly diluted to the extent that the average proportion would be 1: 1,000,000,000,000.

Medical Monotheism

It is always a single remedy that is administered, even in the presence of multiple symptoms, and this single remedy is aimed at all the symptoms.

These principles are in fact displayed in conventional treatments today for allergies and a number of vaccines as well, where the allergen is administered in a minuscule dose or an impotent sample of the virus is administered to strengthen and prepare the immune system against that very same virus. Homeopathic cures therefore have a firm scientific basis that has been tested.

The second principle also lends a great deal of merit to the discipline and adds to the notion of homeopathic natural remedies and homeopathic home remedies. This is because no matter how toxic the remedy might be the remedy administered is in so diluted a form that it may leave no chemical trace whatsoever. According to practitioners of homeopathic therapy the remedy is still so potent because of the retention of the original substance’s electromagnetic energy alone. This means that while the toxic side effects are eliminated the healing effects are still present as these electromagnetic forces alone are enough to stimulate natural healing.

An important aspect of the single remedy principle is that every illness is regarded as individual specific, which means that the remedy for the same illness may not necessarily prescribed to both patients experiencing the same condition. This aspect of homeopathy is a lot more important than it appears to be. It requires intense investigation and research on the part of the doctor, so that he can profile the patient’s lifestyle, diet and character traits, as well as gather illness and symptom specific information. This is therefore tedious and time consuming and requires great attention to detail, for any thorough case building. This is what makes homeopathic treatment so challenging – an inaccurate profile, results in an inaccurate diagnosis and improper treatment, while meticulous profiling and the appropriate prescription can work like a miracle.

There are a number of homeopathic herbal remedies that have been found to be quite effective, like Chamomilla, which is an extract from chamomile, and Allium cepa, a red onion extract, among many others. Some of the other effective alternative homeopathy treatments include Apis, made from bees, and Arsenicum album, an arsenic derivative, to name a few
