Adult Earache – can this clear up on its own?

I have a dull pain in the left ear. It is very itchy inside and if i put my finger in or around the ear canal, the dull pain returns. it doesn’t hurt too much, and is the most irritated if i’m laying on my side or touching it.

it has been irritated for about two days. i have not taken any ibuprofen or tried any other remedies. I don’t have insurance and hope that this will clear up on it’s own. Any ideas how to treat this, or if it’s serious, what it could be? Do these symptoms sound like something you have experienced? Am open to homeopathic remedies.

Other notes:
-No fever
-No headache
-Can hear okay
-Dryness inside the ear
-Can feel it in the top of my jaw if i open wide
-Putting pressure on the back cartilage of the ear, connected to my neck, brings the most irritation
-The pain is dull, not throbbing.
-Biggest problem is dryness and itching.

Ear infections in children clear up almost as well without antibiotic as with them. (Try telling that to a parent of a screaming child.)

Advil in the meantime will help control the discomfort.
